Job Title: Head/Deputy Head (SYSH)
Department: SYSH, HKUST(GZ)
Job Posting Details
Formally established in June 2022, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou)(HKUST(GZ)) is a cooperatively-run university between the Chinese mainland and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. HKUST(GZ) has obtained approval from the Ministry of Education (MoE) and become the first legally-independent educational institution co-established by the Mainland and Hong Kong since the announcement and implementation of the “Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area” and the “Overall Plan for Deepening Globally Oriented Comprehensive Co-operation amongst Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao in Nansha of Guangzhou”. With a spirit of pioneering innovation, HKUST(GZ) charts new territories in cross-disciplinary education and explores new frontiers in pedagogies, aiming to serve as a role model of the mainland-Hong Kong integrated educational development and become a world-famous high-level university, endeavoring to nurture future-oriented, high-level and innovative talents.
In response to the increasingly complex challenges faced by the rapidly changing world, HKUST(GZ) adopts a brand-new and cross-disciplinary academic structure featuring “Hub” and “Thrust” to substitute the conventional one characterized by “school” and “department”, facilitating cross-disciplinary integration while vigorously developing emerging and frontier disciplines. This is a groundbreaking move in the higher education community across the globe.
As one of the four Academic Hubs at the GZ Campus, the Systems Hub hosts a cluster of cross-disciplinary Thrust Areas in Bioscience and Biomedical Engineering, Intelligent Transportation, Robotics and Autonomous Systems, and Smart Manufacturing. Based on fundamental research in various technical fields, the Systems Hub will facilitate the integration of multidisciplinary technologies and explore their applications. The Systems Hub now invites applications for one non-academic position, with the title of Head/Deputy Head, to lead operational efforts in the planning and implementation of administrative functions of the Systems Hub.
Duties
The appointee will have the opportunity to be involved in a range of administrative duties in regard to the oversight and support of faculty recruitment and development, student admission, curricula management, public relationship and outreaching, inter-offices liaison and general office administration of the Systems Hub. Major duties include:
(a) Assist the Dean to set up all related policies, procedures and guidelines for the operations of the Systems Hub;
(b) Coordinate the efforts in recruiting faculty members, academic and non-academic staffs;
(c) Oversee student admission practices and manage studentship/scholarship schemes;
(d) Monitor quality assurance and policy compliance of academic programs, curricula requirements, and administrative regulations;
(e) Liaise with other academic and administrative units within the communities of HKUST;
(f) Establish domestic and international partnership with other tertiary institutions;
(g) Provide secretariat support to Hub Board and Standing Committees including vetting of proposals, preparing meeting papers, drafting committee minutes and following through the implementation of decisions made by the Board and Committees;
(h) Oversee daily operations of the Dean office and automate office business processes; and
(i) Coach and supervise junior staff.
